About Andrew Ireland MM0DXE

My name is Andrew Ireland QTH, St. Monans, Fife, Scotland. I have been interested in all aspects of radio since the 1970’s and was a very keen SWL for many years. CB was the starting point of my hobby although it took me till 1998 to finally get around to sitting the R.A.E. In June1998 I passed the exam and gained the call sign: MM1CXE. In October 2003 I changed my callsign to: MM0DXE. I became very interested in VHF / UHF DX and Contesting. I spent many hours listening to 144MHz SSB for beacons / distant stations. Unfortunately, nowadays the VHF / UHF bands are so quiet I only listen when I know conditions are good.

One of my other interests was packet radio. I was active on packet for about 5 years and enjoyed it, but sadly the local interest in packet went quiet and I did not see the point of leaving my nodes on the air.

In Febuary 2003 I decided to have a go at internet linking as the idea of being able to chat to stations all over the world using a handheld really did have a lot going for it in my opinion. In August 2006, I made a decision to close the Internet Gateway down due to people continually transmitting dead carriers on the frequency.

At the end of 2006 my friend Davie MM1ATY moved to Orkney, and when conditions are good, we do try and have a QSO on 80m and Top Band.

I don't have as much time for radio from my home QTH now a days, but it has been known for me to appear on GB3FF and GB3AG repeaters when mobile. If you hear me on, please give me a call, as the repeaters are very quiet.
